Hi, I’m Marilyn Wo and this is StarPlayer Academy episode 110.

PTOMS110: Don’t Perform to What’s Expected of You, Deal With What’s Possible for Yourself
Sometimes you are performing not based on what you know you can do, but you are doing everything to live up to other people’s expectations.

You know you don’t want that, but you may do it without noticing it.

It’s easier to do it, because you are afraid of embarrassment, of humiliation or of failing to meet those expectations if you don’t focus on those expectations.

You want to know what people want out of you, so that you will do anything to achieve that, because, if you don’t know what they are looking for and not ready to meet those expectations, you may likely fail to make them see you as what they imagined you to be.

You know you are being judged and to hear from anyone telling you that you are not playing well today makes it hard for you to play freely.

Guess what?

Even if you were able to live up to someone’s expectations and judgements about you, you may fail to meet another.

Don’t you know you will never be able to live up to everyone’s expectation?

Even if you are trying to live up to only one person’s expectation, how do you know what he will think after the game is over?

Can you control what this person thinks? Can you control what this person expects out of you?
Does it even matter at all?

Ask yourself not of what they expect out of you, ask yourself what’s possible for you to be better than your current standard.

Don’t live to what’s expected of you, deal with what’s possible for yourself.

Give yourself the freedom to perform. Ignore what you cannot control.
