SPA 055: 7 Easy Ways to Build Unshakeable Confidence

Confidence comes not from always being right but from not fearing to be wrong. – Peter T. McIntyre

Having great opportunities to get connected and up close and personal with various canoe polo players all over the world, I realised even world class athletes do feel less confident of themselves at times.

It’s common to hear many athletes take themselves as their “worst enemy”. It’s true, even if we put in our best effort to train up and prepare for the worst, there will always be this devil in the corner of our heads to say there is someone better out there.

No doubt that’s true, we shouldn’t lie to ourselves. Although we can fake it to make it, lying to ourselves would be different when deep down we know that it’s a lie. If we are not convinced of that voice in our heads, we will always fall short of what our actual capabilities can bring us.

That’s when our much needed confidence can make that difference.

That difference is that belief in ourselves to bring out that unique quality in us that nobody can copy and beat us. In fact, we need not win any championship when we display uniqueness, character and genuine flair in our performance.

Once you master this, you are a true champion no matter what happens as a result.
