“If you do not change direction, you may end up where you are heading.” – Lao Tzu
Here are the basic 27 questions for you to ponder this week to help you stay on track towards the goals you have in your sport. It’s a good practice to write all your answers down in a journal, research shows that writing your thoughts down helps to relieve negative effects of stress, and clears your mind for new thoughts. I did this with a school team back in 2007 to 2009, the only difference between what you are doing now and what I did with them was that I took their journals back for myself to look through. The purpose was for me to better understand them and cater the training program to suit their ambitions besides allowing them to do more self-reflection every week.
It worked really well for those who were willing to let me see what they were thinking. There were a number of athletes who were either shy or didn’t think it was appropriate to be open to me about their feelings. That’s fine, so it’s really best you do it at your own time in a private log book that only you can read, so that you can be totally honest with yourself.
Seriously nobody is looking, you can write with any kind of grammar or vocabulary, you can doodle all you want, doesn’t matter, the idea is to pen down your thoughts.
Your mind’s like a computer, if you don’t download and delete those files in a computer, it takes up memory space and you can’t load up more information. At the same time, journaling enhances your motivation, confidence and concentration to boost your performance. I will link up a video by Dr Haley Perlus on the show notes page who shares the top three journaling tricks you can use to lift your performance.
With that, I would like to share a quote with you by Confucius: By three methods we may learn wisdom: First, by reflection, which is the noblest; Second, by imitation, which is the easiest; and third by experience, which is the bitterest.
