If you do what you do everyday with all good intention, be laser focussed at your task and put in all your effort, you would be better than I am. There’s nothing great with what I do, I was just willing to wait and do the work while waiting.

Hi, I’m Marilyn Wo and this is StarPlayer Academy episode 127.
Success Is When Your Sport is part of your life, Not an Event – Compare Preparation Not Talent
People always ask me, “how do you learn to execute such and such skills so well”. And I would tell them, “excuse me, it’s not just a yearly process of being in such an environment, but a daily affair between me and my game.”
There was a good year when I was down at the training ground everyday without fail doing the same thing over and over again.
If you were to ask me the same question, I would say, “if you do what you do everyday with all good intention, be laser focussed at your task and put in all your effort, you would be better than I am. There’s nothing great with what I do, I was just willing to wait and do the work while waiting.”
This is not a comparison of talent, it’s a competition of preparation.
Every competition gives ample time, 1 year, 4 years, 6 months at least for you to make enough preparation to practice and condition yourself to be ready for it.
Your test is not to show your talent and prove to people that you are a genius. Your test is to use your talent to the best of your abilities on top of your daily conditioning to be ready for any games you’ve signed up for. Your talents make things more natural for you in a specific area, not to make you lazier.
If you want to be better than yourself, be prepared. If you want to be better than the rest, shape up and be prepared.
You athletes out there, I know you get impatient sometimes, there are times you get close to winning, there are times you lose to others by more than 10 goals.
You know what is success?
To me, you are successful when your sport is part of your life. It’s all the preparation, losses and winnings combined. Being in your sport is not an event, it’s a lifestyle. It’s a combination of your challenges, failures, trials and tribulations that led you to become who you are and who you want to be, and that’s success.
